The Café

Coffee, cake, and a table by the window.

Mornings start with espresso and pastries from our own Conditorei, baked here before we open. Stay for a second cup, read the paper, or meet someone you haven't seen in a while.

No rush. That's the idea.

Our Story

How a café in Horgen ended up with art on the walls.

[Who started the café, and why. How it found its place on Dorfgasse, which kitchens and countries shaped what we cook, and when the first painting went up because a friend needed a wall.]

[What we want people to feel when they walk in.]

From our kitchen

A small kitchen that follows the day.

Breakfast turns into brunch, lunch into aperitivo, and on some evenings the tables are laid for dinner. A short menu that changes with the season.

My story

Sofia

Owner of ADAM'S Cafeteria & Conditorei

«Gutes Essen macht Menschen glücklich.»

Good food makes people happy.

My name is Sofia. I was born in Horgen, my family comes from Morocco, and my life has been made of journeys and changes of work, some of them sudden. This is my story.

  1. Sofia kneading dough at a floured table, laughing, trays of cinnamon knots beside her.
    01Horgen · Morocco

    The roots

My parents came to Switzerland from Morocco before I was born. I was born and grew up in Horgen.

My love of cooking was handed down to me by my mother. Meanwhile I trained in foreign languages, which have stayed with me as another great passion to this day.

  2. Sofia in work overalls with a tablet, beside an open truck engine in a workshop.
    02Switzerland

    Quality and engines

I trained as a quality specialist and worked in Switzerland for a well-known engineering company: workshops, inspections, procedures, attention to every detail.

That job taught me a great deal. But my passion was still the kitchen.

  3. Sofia in a black apron pouring red wine for two guests at a restaurant table.
    03Italy

    Front of house and kitchen

Then came Italy. That is where I started working in restaurants, both front of house and in the kitchen: serving, listening to guests, learning the rhythm of a service.

  4. Sofia teaching a cooking class, dusting a braided cinnamon wreath.Sofia handing a bowl of pasta from the Nonna Maria food truck on a snowy winter evening.
    04Sweden

    Something of my own

In Sweden I refined my cooking skills and learned the local techniques.

That is where the plan to create something of my own was born. First Nonna Maria, an Italian food truck; then a cooking school, where I began to teach what I had learned.

  5. Sofia cooking at the stove in a professional kitchen, tongs in hand, looking to the right.
    05Back in Switzerland

    Back in the kitchen

Finally I came back to Switzerland, and back to the kitchen. It was not always easy: starting over, finding my place again, sometimes taking one step back to take two forward.

  6. Sofia in a chef's jacket at a wooden table with a glass of red wine, smiling.
    06Horgen · Dorfgasse

    The decision

After a long time I made the decision: to open something of my own. That is how ADAM'S was born, in Horgen, where it all began.

A café, a Conditorei, a kitchen and a little room for art. There is a piece of every stage of this journey in it.

An evening at ADAM'S: guests among the paintings, the long wooden counter set for an apéro.

With my daughters

Everything here is prepared with a lot of love, and with the precious help of my daughters. Thank you for your help, your support and for always being by my side. I am incredibly proud of you.

[Their names and what each of them does at the café.]

Art meets cuisine

For me, good food and art belong together. That is why paintings hang on our walls and why we cook for openings and events, like the Sensorik-Apéro at Kunstraum Kesselhaus in September 2026, with homemade specialities, olive oil and wine.
